Reza Darvishian, P.E., F. ASCE
Region 2 Director and Chair
Reza Darvishian, P.E., F.ASCE, is Value Engineering Program Manager with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Overseas Building Operation charged with design and construction diplomatic facilities world wide. Prior to his current position, Mr. Darvishian held several executive positions with top 500 engineering firms, including Chief Operating Officer, and Vice President. Mr. Darvishian has held numerous positions within ASCE, both locally and nationally. He is currently serving as member of Program Committee and International Activity Committee (IAC). Prior to this position he served a three -year term as District 5 Director in ASCE Board of Direction.
Mr. Darvishian earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri and a master’s degree in engineering management from George Washington University. He is a registered professional engineer in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

I. Upcoming Regions 1, 2, 4 & 5 Workshop for Sections and Branch Leaders
The workshop for Section and Branch Leaders in Regions 1, 2, 4 and 5 will be held in Atlanta, Georgia on February 12 & 13, 2010. This annual meeting is sponsored by the ASCE Committee on Geographic units and will be attended by the new ASCE President Blaine Leonard, President-Elect Kathy Caldwell, Regional Governors, Section and Branch Officers and ASCE Staff. II. Society President-Elect for 2010
Kathy Caldwell has been voted by the members of ASCE to be the 2010 President Elect (as certified by the Tellers Committee of ASCE on August 17). Region 2 would like to congratulate Kathy on a very exciting election. Region 2 looks forward to working with Kathy and supporting her Presidency in 2011.
Below is a short background statement about Kathy:
Kathy J. Caldwell, P.E., M.ASCE., an active member of ASCE since 1984, and most recently a member of the Board of Direction and the Executive Committee, has been chosen by the Society's membership as the President-elect for 2010. Caldwell will take office at the Society's Annual Conference in Kansas City, Mo., this October. As President-elect, she will support incoming President Blaine D. Leonard and prepare to assume the ASCE presidency in 2011. A structural engineer by training, the Gainesville, Fla. resident is president of Caldwell Cook & Associates, and is an adjunct professor at the University of Florida. In an election that saw the number of members' votes more than triple over last year, positions for At-Large Director, Technical Region Director, and Region Directors and Governors also were filled.

American Society of Civil Engineers, founded in 1852, is a not-for-profit professional society incorporated in the State of New York.

Eastern Shore Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers holds its inaugural meeting.
PRINCESS ANNE, MD- The inaugural meeting of the Eastern Shore Branch of the Maryland Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) was held Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Richard A. Henson Center at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore UMES campus. On hand to install the pioneer officers of the branch were: Donald W. Vannoy, Governor, ASCE Region 2, Kelly Brennan, President, MD Section ASCE, and Ray Streib, Treasurer, MD Section ASCE. Mr. Vannoy performed the installation of new branch officers and Ms. Brennan presented the branch with an ASCE banner and Dr. Harvey A. Kagan with a plaque of appreciation for his efforts in coordinating the formation of the branch. The keynote speaker, Mr. Dale Pusey, civil engineer with the City of Salisbury and Stormwater Management Consultants for Somerset County spoke on the topic “Stormwater Management Changes for 2010."
This meeting represents the culmination of an effort begun in May 2007 by Eastern Shore Civil Engineers to form a local organization that would bring professional and community activities closer to home and work,” said Dr. Harvey A. Kagan, Branch President. “The larger Maryland Section conducts programs and activities primarily in the Baltimore-Washington area limiting participation by Eastern Shore Civil Engineers due to the travel times involved.
The new Branch encompasses Caroline, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset and Worcester Counties. During the past two years the ASCE group has presented Engineering Expos for middle school and high school students in Caroline, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester Counties. The Expos featured interactive presentations of what Civil Engineers do by ASCE members from local firms and from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The group has also been working with the Wicomico and Worcester County STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Task Forces to promote instructional formats in the school system that will introduce students to STEM careers.
